My research project examines the mediation of shifts in cultural power relationships between India and Australia through the lens of cricket. Specifically, I am interested in exploring the way in which India’s growing political and economic power in the sport has been projected to an Australian audience, and how this projection has mediated new challenges and possibilities within the India-Australia relationship. My research focuses on the years 2000-08, a period in which India became the pre-eminent political and economic power in the game and developed an often controversial rivalry with the then dominant Australian team.
