The Journal of Pacific History is an internationally refereed journal dedicated to the study of Pacific Island pasts. Its wide regional focus (including the subregions Melanesia, Polynesia and Micronesia) and chronological remit from remote prehistory to the present are unique. It has special strengths in research relating to the 19th and 20th centuries and in coverage of current political developments.
JPH publishes articles in political, economic, religious and cultural history; critical surveys of major themes, approaches and debates in Pacific scholarship; and analysis of contemporary developments. It also publishes primary documents, notes on source materials, and reviews of books, media and exhibitions. JPH welcomes submissions from all disciplines that contribute to historical understandings of the Pacific or address questions of comparative or theoretical interest to the region. The journal also produces an annual filmography and research bibliographies.
Since its launch 1966, from the world's first Department of Pacific History at the Australian National University, JPH has promoted top scholarship and new research. It is produced in paper and electronic formats and made available to over 20,000 libraries worldwide. JPH is guided by two editors and a distinguished international editorial board.
