The School of Culture, History and Language is home to over 200 academics whose research interests lie in the Asia-Pacific region. CHL undergraduate programs draw on this elite expertise to provide the country's leading programs in the teaching of Asia-Pacific Studies. The undergraduate programs offered in the School of Culture, History and Language are arranged around two primary goals:
-
Learning a language of the region
Understanding the context of Asia and the Pacific, its relationship to Australia, and the region's place in a global world.
Students graduate with both a high level of language fluency and a thorough understanding of the context in which their chosen language is spoken.
Study in-country
There is no better way to learn a language than by immersing yourself in it. The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific offers a variety of options for students to extend their study of the Asia- Pacific region through dedicated in-country programs. These programs provide students with the opportunity to spend an extended period in a country where their chosen language is spoken. Students studying in-country gain much more than just an improvement in their language ability; they develop an in-depth understanding of the context in which the language is spoken. Students return from in-country study with a heightened awareness of local issues and a skill set that can only be gained from cultural immersion.
