Information for contributors

The journal comprises three sections:

  • The first section contains new, internationally refereed research articles and at least one previously published but important piece translated from regional or formerly colonial languages.
  • The second section, "Research Notes and Data Papers", publishes short research notes, primary materials, translations, data papers, and so forth that deal with relevant aspects of the Chinese southern diaspora, past and present.
  • The third section is the CSCSD newsletter which contains information on the activities of the Centre.

The journal publishes articles and research notes in both English and Chinese, and Chinese researchers are especially invited to submit pieces for publication. The editors seek to publish several original contributions in Chinese in each edition, in order to facilitate wider access to recent Chinese research in this large field.

Articles based on original new research should be 6000-15,000 words in length, although longer pieces are accepted provided the extra length is justified by the relevance of their arguments/information. Submissions should be fully documented according to the CSDS style sheet (available on-line at this website). Shorter manuscripts (up to 5000 words) are accepted at the editors' discretion, and appear in the non-refereed "Research Notes and Data Papers" section.

CSDS welcomes illustrations and is happy to publish whatever digital images authors would like, provided the images are freely available or the authors either hold copy right in the images or have the permission of the copy right holder(s). Obtaining this prior permission is the responsibility of authors, as are any royalty payments that might be required for reproduction.

CSDS is accessible via EBSCO databases as well as freely available on the Internet. Authors retain all copyright in their own work, and will be asked to formally agree to allow EBSCO to reproduce their material before each issue is uploaded to the web.
