The ANU Indonesia Project and ANU Indonesia Institute welcomed students, alumni and partners to the ANU Indonesia Student Social 2026, a lunchtime social networking event of discussion and community building focused on opportunities in Indonesian studies.

The event brought together a diverse panel of speakers representing student, alumni and professional pathways. Nick von Guttner and Ash from the Australia–Indonesia Youth Association (AIYA) shared insights on building cross-cultural connections and professional networks. Allys Hansell reflected on her experience as a recipient of the ANU Indonesia Project Student Research Travel Grant and an ACISIS scholar, highlighting how in-country research can shape academic and career trajectories. Zukhri, representing the ANU Indonesian Student Association (ANUISA), spoke about student engagement and the importance of community in supporting international and domestic students alike.

Together, the panel offered practical advice on studying Indonesia, pursuing research opportunities, and navigating early career pathways connected to the region. The discussion also underscored the value of interdisciplinary engagement and strong people-to-people links between Australia and Indonesia.

The event attracted a strong turnout of students from across ANU, along with familiar faces from the Project’s alumni and partner networks. Attendees had the opportunity to connect directly with speakers and peers, fostering new relationships and strengthening existing networks.

The ANU Indonesia Student Social forms part of the Project’s broader commitment to supporting the next generation of Australian Indonesianists. By creating spaces for dialogue, mentorship and connection, the Project continues to encourage deeper engagement with Indonesia across academic, professional and personal pathways.
