Qualification

I am a PhD Candidate at the Anthropology programme. My work inquires into the mechanisms of social hierarchy among Muslims in Malabar, South India. Conducting ethnographic fieldwork on hierarchical practices and family gatherings, I shall explore how social hierarchy is sustained, practiced and rationalised among Muslims. I shall also explore the implications of these contextual processes for understanding the connections between social hierarchy among Muslims and caste system in Hinduism.
