Korean Studies
The Korean Studies Program at ANU maintains its standing as the strongest in the southern hemisphere, with a long tradition of excellence in research, teaching, and community service. History, literary and popular culture, and language and society constitute the main fields of scholarly inquiry for the academic staff, but their interests extend across a wide range of disciplines and methodologies.
Undergraduate courses include those on gender, creative industries, cinema, modern Korean history, North Korean history and society, contemporary South Korea, the Korean War, and others. They form the core of the Korean Studies Program, for both the major and minor. In addition, the comprehensive Korean language offerings form the basis of the Korean language major and minor.
Intellectual life also draws from public seminars, a guest speaker series, conferences, visiting scholars and artists, film screenings and discussions, and many outreach activities in the Canberra and ACT area.
The ANU Korea Institute, housed in the College of Asia and the Pacific, helps support and coordinate these activities in the Korean Studies Program.
