Victor Leiva Alarcon

Born in Peru and having lived most of my life in Luxembourg, I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences at the University of Montpellier, followed by a Master's degree in Genomics and Data Analysis at Aix-Marseille University in France. During my first internships, I began to specialize in long-read DNA sequencing with Oxford Nanopore Technologies and PacBio, notably at the Marseille Medical Genetics laboratory under the supervision of Frédérique Magdinier, and at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in the Ritchie Lab under the supervision of Quentin Gouil. After completing my studies, I worked at the University of Lorraine as a bioinformatician within the Epitranscriptomics Platform, where I applied my ONT long-read sequencing expertise to the identification and quantification of modifications in RNA molecules. I am currently a PhD candidate at the CHL, and my research focuses on studying DNA from a cohort of diverse populations in Southeast Asia to catalog genetic variants and epigenetic marks associated with health and adaptation, using Oxford Nanopore Technologies. My PhD project is funded by the prestigious Luxembourg National Research Fund.

Research Interest

My research focuses on better understanding the genomic and epigenomic particularities of populations in Southeast Asia, helping to fill a gap in our knowledge of modern human evolution.
