Jay Caldwell
Jay Caldwell is a current PhD candidate with the School of Culture History & Language at the Australian National University. He is a qualified teacher who has taught in secondary, vocational, and tertiary sectors in Australia. Jay spent 15 years in the Australian Public Service working on national security policy and analysis. Jay held senior roles in foreign policy and crisis management. He worked in the offices of two Prime Ministers. Prior to commencing his PhD, Jay spent seven years leading large executive education programs at ANU for security officials in Australia and the Pacific Islands region. Jay was the Director of Professional Studies at the National Security College, and Deputy Director at the Pacific Security College.
Research Interest
My research focuses on how Pacific Islands universities contribute to local conceptions of security for Pacific Islands peoples. The research sits at the intersection of Sociology of Education, Pacific Studies and Security Studies.
