CHL student named Future Star at 23rd Chinese Bridge Competition

The 23rd Chinese Bridge Competition for World University Students was successfully held at Charles Darwin University on the 8th of August with the theme of “One Country, One World”.
Guo Jiao Yang, Educational Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Australia, Vatskalis, Mayor of Darwin, and Dr. Fan Sheng Yu, Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Languages at School of Culture, History and Language, the College of Asia-Pacific at the Australian National University, attended the event.
Participants from universities in Western Australia, the ACT and the Northern Territory participated in the competition. The competition consisted of a written Chinese knowledge quiz, a keynote speech and a talent show. After three rounds of competition, Sun Yimeng from the University of Western Australia won the first place, while Charlotte from the Australian National University and Dongru from Curtin University won the title of “Future Star”.

In the competition, Sun Yimeng's Chinese keynote speech, “Putting on Chinese Glasses,” won praise for its unique point of view. Dongru demonstrated her calligraphy of the Chinese character “dragon”, which has a high aesthetic value, while Charlotte's song “Butterfly Lovers” allowed the guests to experience the joys and sorrows of the ancients.
Fan Shengyu hoped that the students would go further on the road of learning Chinese and achieve better results along the long journey. Yu Aihong, Foreign Director of the Confucius Institute at Charles Darwin University, pointed out that “Chinese Bridge” provides a broad platform for young people to learn Chinese, and allows more people to understand Chinese language and culture, and builds a bridge of friendship between Australia and China in language and cultural exchanges.
