Lee's practice-led research examines the visual aesthetics of post-memory and genealogical imagination in the aftermath of the Korean War, focusing specifically on the Korean-Australian diaspora. Drawing on her position as both a researcher and community member of mixed heritage, Lee explores how cultural memory and trauma are transmitted across generations, with particular attention to 'obscured memories' — those that are lost, untold, or passed down through family chronicles.
Lee's fieldwork centres on narratives from a range of Korean-Australian community members, developed into an anthology combining creative non-fiction writing and photographic archives. Through this practice, she creates spaces to 're-encounter' the profound consequences of the Korean War, while demonstrating how diasporic communities preserve and transform their cultural heritage. Lee's research examines how creative interpretation can generate alternative or resistant memories of historical events, contributing to broader discussions about intergenerational memory and cultural identity through a reparative aesthetic approach.
