Groundbreaking research now suggests that over 100,000 individuals may be eligible for compensation following decades of exposure to dangerous levels of radiation. From 1966 to 1996, France conducted 193 nuclear tests at the Moruroa and Fangataufa atolls, including 41 atmospheric tests up until 1974, endangering the local populace, onsite workers, and French military personnel.
As nuclear weapons have now been declared illegal, the Pacific communities are calling for transparency and truth about the years of testing. This workshop provides a unique opportunity to delve into recently declassified documents from the French Defence Ministry alongside maps, photos, and interviews from France and French Polynesia.
